About Us

Since 1992, the Dothan Tennis Association has functioned as a booster organization for tennis in Dothan, Alabama. The DTA's mission is to support existing local tennis programs while promoting the expansion of tennis for both adult and junior players of all abilities. Through its various programs, the DTA touches thousands of adult, junior, and handicapped players in the Dothan area each year.

The DTA organizes a variety of tennis programs and events throughout the year for tennis players of all ages and abilities. For junior players, the DTA sponsors the DTA High School Shoot-Out which brings boy and girl teams from all over Alabama to Dothan for a weekend of competitive tennis. For adult players, the DTA organizes two annual tournaments that focus on both singles and doubles play for men and women. The DTA Doubles Tournament is a very popular event held at the end of the summer for players of all skill levels. The DTA Fall Classic follows the summer schedule and is a singles and mixed doubles tournament that brings in players from around the tri-state area.

The DTA has been very involved in supporting the growth of Special Olympics. The Special Olympic "Dothan Spirit" tennis team has improved tremendously since being organized in 2003. In October 2006, the DTA hosted a Special Olympic tennis tournament in conjunction with Dothan Leisure Services. This has become an annual tournament which brings teams and tourism to Dothan from all over the southeast.

The DTA is a proud sponsor of several local tennis tournaments held in Dothan. The DTA sponsors the $75,000 Movie Gallery USTA Pro Classic which brings women's professional tennis to Dothan. This event generates a great deal of local interest as it gives Dothan tennis enthusiasts a chance to see world class tennis up close. The DTA also sponsors the Linda Stewart Memorial Adult and Junior Open tournaments held each year in the spring at the nationally recognized Westgate Tennis Center.

New for 2008! The DTA is introducing a scholarship program for deserving junior players to help them pursue their goal of attending college.

Furthermore, as a DTA member you will receive reduced entry fees to all DTA sponsored tournaments you play. The DTA will also hold one-day tournaments and special events that all DTA members can participate in for no charge.
